A Day in the Life… 
 
Reporting to the Director, Development & Stewardship, the Communications Officer, Development supports, development, and donor relations objectives of the University by building and executing integrated donor relations and communications plans including departmental websites, collateral, reports and newsletter publications, and social media.
 
As the Communications Officer, you will:
 
  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy that successfully delivers information and key messages to the philanthropic audience and other constituents of issues and opportunities that maximize the institution's fundraising efforts; 
  • Develop and maintain content on the online community for Development and Donor Relations website and other relevant social media websites; co-ordinate e-blasts and social networking interaction;
  • Interface with all internal stakeholders to solicit feedback and approvals on creative and ensure that feedback is incorporated and creative is error-free;
  • Collaborate with University Web development team and Advancement Operations staff to administer the e-newsletter and distribution lists;
  • Consult on and develop event marketing promotion;
  • Track e-newsletter statistics (number of opens and views) and adapt communication and marketing  strategies accordingly in consultation with University Marketing and Communications;
  • Develop and implement key metrics to evaluate the success of each promotional activity;
  • Provide direction and support for the communication and marketing opportunities of the Brock University Development and Donor Relations team;
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop and implement a donor recognition and engagement communications plan;
  • Bring to Brock the best practices in the donor relations field to continuously enhance Brock’s donor outreach efforts.
 
What you Need to Succeed…
 
  • University or college degree with a preference for communications related education;
  • 2 - 3 years of writing and editing experience in a major educational institution or a registered charitable/not-for-profit organization;
  • Strong writing and editing skills with significant attention to detail and demonstrated knowledge of developing and producing communications and marketing products in both print and electronic media;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the management and implementation of web technology and web design, such as Microsoft SharePoint, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver; 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access (or other database), Outlook, statistical analysis software, internet, social media, and email technologies;
  • Working knowledge of Privacy legislation;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with a strong customer service orientation and the ability to provide leadership in areas of expertise;
  • Ability to represent Brock University through an understanding of its mission and brand as well as its strategic objectives;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and leverage effective working relationships; 
  • Conflict management and strong negotiation skills both within the central/faculty operations and with constituents; 
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve individual and team goals;
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, research, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities combined with good judgment; 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure with thorough attention to detail and consistent follow through.
 
Preferred or Asset Skills:
 
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar relational database
 
Salary and Benefit Information
 
  • Job Grade J ($47,455 - $63,027)
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage.

Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
